Values and Practices

Prayer: Wherever Christians gather should be considered the Lord's house, and therefore, a house of prayer. Prayer is not meant to be a transition time, but a serious and meaningful personal conversation with God. It is our main method of seeking the Lord's will and expressing our requests to Him. We pray for others and with others, but we only pray to God, in Jesus name, never to man or any substitutionary idol.

Intentional Spiritual Walk: We are called to fellowship together in Christ, but each person bears responsibility for their personal growth in Christ Jesus. You must choose to seek Him and study His Word. Others will walk with you, but they should not attempt to take over your life or micromanage your development of faith. Scripture challenges each of us to walk out this journey of sanctification with fear and trembling before the Lord (Philippians 2:12), not developing a dependency on a person, apart from Christ, to supply our strength and meet our needs. Those whom Christ sets free are truly free indeed (John 8:36); free to grow in our relationship with Him.

Discipleship: Part of our biblical mandate is the making of disciples. Going beyond just sharing a means to salvation, we are called to offer steps and guidance to others through this Christian life. As we mature, we should come along side and share our experiences with others; the older men with the younger men, and the mature woman with the younger ladies. Those that are new in their faith should pray and ask the Lord to connect them with a mature believer who they learn from and be discipled by in marriage, parenting business, finance, and other aspects of life as a Christian. This relationship is developed through prayer and the Spirit's leading, and cannot be forced or contrived. Iron is meant to sharpen iron in this journey of faith together.

Leadership: We will follow the biblical design of male Pastors, and seasoned believers in positions of authority who are seeking the Lord and following the Spirit. We will follow scripture with women teaching other women and children, and operating in their gifts under biblical headship and covering. We will follow the biblical design of a head Pastor/elders led structure, prayerfully hearing and addressing concerns from within the body. We will exercise proper biblical discipline as needed to prevent wolves from attacking and destroying the flock. Leaders are purposed to help others grow to understand their role in the body and equip them for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:12).

Teaching: All teaching and instruction will come from a Christ-centered, biblical position and perspective ALWAYS. All teaching materials will be carefully screened to ensure it is in complete alignment with the Word of God and is supporting a biblical worldview. We recognize that the Holy Spirit is the true source of inspiration and instruction for the believer and will always be the guiding foundational source of all we preach and teach (John 14:26). We will always defer to the Holy Bible, God's Word, as our ultimate guide for God's truth, information, and insight (2 Timothy 3:16) and our primary tool for instruction.

Giving: The Old Testament instructs on tithing, the New Covenant directs the heart of the giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). We are to give freely and cheerfully, not under compulsion or out of obligation. Our giving demonstrates our trust in God, as well as our love and compassion for others, and is a private matter between you and God. All spending and financial accounting of gifts will be open and transparent. As a recognized incorporated nonprofit in Florida, your giving is legally tax exempt, although there are no current plans for BCF to apply for 501c3 status. A status change may become necessary in the future in order to own property, and if needed, leadership will direct that change.

Music: Whether hymns, contemporary, rap or country, it must be biblically sound. Music should honor God, testify of God, and worship God. Jesus must be worshipped in spirit and in truth in every form of worship. Music in the fellowship setting should never be a performance or be about forcing a mood through entertainment. It is always meant to be an expression of worship and a way to draw closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Customs and Traditions: We are functioning simply as Christ followers and believers. We are not taking up the mantle of a denomination, as we are a fellowship of Christians. Any practices we observe will be based on scripture, not tradition. For example: observing the Lord's supper is biblical and will be done. Breaking bread together and studying the Word of God corporately are found in scripture, and will be a part of our practice. Baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, and Spirit is from the Word, and we will live accordingly. We minister and serve others by washing feet as Jesus gave this as an example and encourages us to do it as well. Easter bunnies, Christmas trees, praying to saints are not biblical and will not have a place in our shared time. Your personal holiday celebrations and traditions are for you and your family to sort out with the Lord. In our gatherings, we will adhere to what is biblical in all matters.

Social Issues: We are in the world, but not of the world, therefore, we will maintain our focus on worldly matters through the lens of our impact for the Kingdom of God. We will instruct and offer insight using biblical principles for practical application to the world around us. We will examine how to address global and community topics from a biblical worldview. Our charge is to teach believers to observe all things as commanded by God. Therefore, our focus will always be to help cultivate discerning followers of Christ that can impact the world around them for the glory of God.

Modest Attire: We are not a fellowship pushing formal over casual attire. For believers, we respectfully ask two things: one, to consider the struggle of others as you construct your appearance for our gathering. Modesty is a biblical  concept and we should be considerate of others by not being a distraction or a source of temptation. Secondly, we must equally demonstrate grace and patience with nonbelievers and immature Christians in their attire, reminding ourselves that God is looking at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7) and that they will grow by God’s grace. Everyone should pray first before addressing others over this or any other issues of concern.

Church Affiliation: We are not identifying with a denomination or calling ourselves non-denominational. We are promoting the unity described in the prayer of Jesus in John 17 as evidence that God the Father sent His Son Jesus to be the Savior of the world. We are walking in and living out the new covenant with better promises of Hebrews 8. We are believers, followers and servants of Jesus Christ. That is and will remain our focus: a fellowship of Christians honoring Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior doing His Kingdom work.
